Clear Edge partnered with a global lithium producer to improve solids capture, which is critical to product purity. The filtration process directly impacts the final product’s purity, making it essential to meet strict specifications. Clear Edge conducted an on-site testing program to closely replicate, the customer’s polishing filtration process, allowing for rapid filter cloth selection. Once the optimal cloth was identified, it progressed from limited-scale testing to a full-scale trial, culminating in a large-scale order based on successful results.
THE CHALLENGE
Maintaining product purity by reducing silica impurities during filtration.
The key challenge was minimizing silica content, as even small impurities would negatively affect the final product’s purity. The customer needed a filter cloth that could capture fine particles efficiently, as running a lower-efficiency cloth risked allowing unwanted solids into the product. Finding a solution required benchmarking multiple filter cloth options to determine the best performance in real-world conditions.

Clear Edge worked closely with the customer to identify process limitations before recommending an on-site testing program. Using Clear Edge’s portable test equipment, the team was able to test multiple filter cloths under exact process conditions, ensuring faster product evaluation. The test kit allowed for real-time measurement of solids capture and filtration rates, ensuring the new cloth maintained high efficiency without
sacrificing throughput. By replicating the customer’s polishing filtration setup, the tests identified the cloth’s ability to retain high particle capture even as the filter cake built up.

The testing program, conducted at the customer’s lab, identified Azurtex™ 2.0 as the ideal filter cloth for this application. Azurtex™ 2.0 features a porous impregnation, offering superior particle retention while maintaining flow rates and minimizing blinding. The customer’s in-house analysis confirmed a 40% reduction in silica impurities, prompting immediate full-scale trials. Based on successful results, the customer bypassed the usual step-up approach and placed an order for 650 pieces, replacing the incumbent filter cloth. Within months, Azurtex™ 2.0 became the standard filter cloth at the site, demonstrating significant improvements in purity and efficiency.
